Animation test 2

    Amelia Grace

 

This is my latest animation test for Amelia Grace, unlike my last test where I drew the frames freehand, this time I used Rotoscoping, which is created by shooting a live piece of footage, breaking it down into individual frames and then drawing over the footage by hand. First I shot the footage, then uploaded it onto my computer, I then traced over the key frames of the film then scanned those into the computer.  

 

These were the initial sketches I traced by hand.

 

 

 

I then uploaded my frames into Photoshop which allowed me to add colour and tidy up the lines and shapes of my drawings.

Merida + Rapunzel

This is just an idea I had after watching these two films, thought it might be sweet to do something with both characters.

Coloured and edited using Photoshop of course, but I've found a technique that makes really good hair!!

I wasn't really happy with the background, so I applied the same technique I used to create the hair, and added a circle of grass to help ground the characters in the picture, also adding grass over the top of the characters to make the grass look real.

Here are my last character sketches, I have finally come up with a design for Malum and Prince Belcrast, as always coloured versions are on the way!!

Coloured Concepts

    Amelia Grace

Here are the promised Coloured versions of the King and Queen, I am finding it hard deciding on a design for Malum, my villain, any ideas would be welcome.

 

King Belcrast

I decided to go with a crimson colour scheme for the Belcrast house as they are mostly male dominated in my story and I think that red looks good on a fat king!!

 

Queen Amden

I decided to give the Amden house a royal blue colour scheme to make it more feminine and slightly softer than the red of the Belcrast house.

I decided to model my King on Henry 8th because I wanted

a character who was jolly around his own people but

hard and stern when it comes to his enemies.

I'm not happy with the face, I will go back in and change it

 before I colour this one in I think!

A couple more characters for you, it took me a while to decide upon a colour scheme for Rylian but I think the dark blue works well. I also wanted to give amelia her own side kick/ pet as all Disney princesses seem to have them, e.g Rapunzel and Pascal, Arial and Flounder, and since she lives with a famiy of goat herders I decided to give her a goat called Billy!

Here are some of the new character concepts I promised you, Amelia in her new style dress, and Rylian's horse Destiny. Coming soon, King and Queen, Malum and a possible pet/side kick for Amelia.

New Character Concepts

Here are some new character concepts for Amelia and Rylian, coloured versions are on the way and will be posted as soon as I finish them!! I am also working on ideas for Malum and the King and Queen.

 

 

I decided to alter Amelia's dress slightly to make it a bit more girly but still keep the rough 'outdoorsy' look I also gave her a haircut to simplify all those curls I had to start with!

When it came to designing Rylian I found it difficult to come up with something original, I looked at previous Disney princes but they were all a bit 'samey' so I looked at characters such as Sinbad, and Flinn Rider, to help me create a more heroic look than the more traditional prince. This research also served another purpose because Rylian is not the prince in my story I was able to create a rugged look to match his character. My prince will be far less interesting than Rylian!!
